Letter to the Editor
Regarding the article "Usefulness of Occult Studies in Modern Society", I
must
disagree with Mr. Pabodie's remarks of Americans living in a largely
occult-free society. Residents of Arkham alone
have had plenty of first-hand experience with the occult, outside of
academia. I myself have an occult encounter at least three times a week.
Rather than basing his opinion on his own dim and narrow perception of the
world, perhaps Mr. Pabodie should examine the true life events that happen
around him daily.
Additionally, his comments about the occult investogation group SPONGE were deplorable. Dr. Bustoffson is a pillar of the community, and other than that herculean misunderstanding last Fall with the French Ambassador, Dr. Bustoffson has never had any problems with the authorities.
Finally, I must mention that the courses provided at Miskatonic University are
unique, and as applicable today as they ever were. I applaud the
University's recent decision to keep occult studies as part of the
mandatory cirriculum. I suggest Mr. Pabodie consider taking a class or two
at the University; it may expand his horizons.
