James Skipper [mucus@jimskipper.com]
Dr. Bustoffson,

It is a shame that because of the busy schedules we
both have that we have not had the opportunity to have
a good talk. The times that I have been in Arkham and
on the campus of Miskatonic University, I have been
unable to arrange a meeting with you. Perhaps one day
you can come down to Houston and I will give you a
tour of our campus, as well as the sites of Houston.

The opportunity to affiliate my group with S-P-O-N-G-E
has been a great one and has provided me, my students
and othe colleagues with the opportunity to meet and
work with others who share our interests and concerns.
I think the Historian Network and the Affiliate
Program have been an extraordinary success and provide
a true benefit to every one who is a member.

As you may have observed, there are some of us who
have been concerned about some the recent events and
tidbits of information from your journal. You have
suggested disbanding the Affiliate Program and seem to
have doubts about the effectiveness of the Historian
Network as a whole.

I can understand your concern. There is clearly a
security problem that needs to be addressed. I do not
think disbanding the Historian Network is a solution,
but certainly something must be done.

As for the Affiliates and affiliate members getting
into trouble, even getting killed, that is a risk we
all accept. Perhaps you feel somehow personally
responsible. I know that there is not a day goes by
that I do not wonder about Murphy, the graduate
student that disappeared while doing research in
Arkham. Perhaps the experiences related by some of the
Affiliates have emboldened some of the less
experienced to seek out dangers for which they are not
prepared. Shadow is but one example.

Some are concerned about these - seemingly - last
minute trips taken by Kilroy and Matrin, and similar
incidents that have occurred since your resurrection.

I realize that you have a better view of the big
picture and that maybe there is information to which
your are privy that it is not safe to disclose at this
point. Let me simple point out that there is a morale
problem in the Network.

One thing my experience as an Army officer taught is
that there is nothing worse for the troops than lack
of information. When soldiers can only see a small
piece of the picture, they tend to speculate, create
rumors and worry.

It would be a relief to all of us to have you compose
a little note on S-P-O-N-G-E that explains some of
your intent and your strategy for moving S-P-O-N-G-E
forward and overcoming these obstacles.

I have admired the bold leadership you have shown at
the helm of S-P-O-N-G-E. You have been a mentor for
some and an inspiration for all. We look forward to
your continued success and the success of S-P-O-N-G-E,
it Affiliates and the Historian Network.

Sincerely,

Jim Skipper
