It was pretty easy to determine the Shoggoth Master was not human, since he could form tentacles and mouths. But he wasn't as tough and nasty as a full on shoggoth.
02-01-01 : Historian Brewer receives threatening emails from someone claiming to be "Shoggoth Master". It is widely believed that no human can master a shoggoth, so if this name is at all accurate, it portends trouble.
01-16-01 : ECHO affiliates are all killed by an unknown assailant. Security cameras pick up a single image of a man that seems less (or more) than human. See Rogues Gallery.
01-30-01 : Historian Gore claims to have witnessed the ECHO massacre, and followed the Shoggoth Master to his hideaway in North Carolina. A S&D mission is planned.
01-31-01 : A blood sample from ECHO turns out to belong to Shoggoth Master, and shows characteristics of both human and shoggoth DNA. It begins to grow into what was probably a shoggoth-like offspring, but was destroyed before cellular meiosis was fully underway.
02-11-01 : Historian Gore turns out to BE Shoggoth Master, and has set a trap. He is killed in an explosion, but takes Dr. Bustoffson with him. Barney is subsequently regrown with the Essential Salts Ritual.
02-27-01 : Barney begins acting strangely, attempting to undermine SPONGE work, and dissolve the HN. His blood tests appear to be normal.
03-12-01 : The Historian Network find evidence that Shoggoth Master's cells bonded with Barney's after the explosion, and he was regrown as well during ESR. At this time I was taken prisoner by Barney and taken to the remains of the hideaway in NC.
03-17-01 : Barney's remains divided on a cellular level, and he and Shoggoth Master are regrown separately. Shoggoth Master subsequently escapes.
Postulations: He was probably engineered by someone else (Nyarlathotep?).
