Les was born to a prominent anthropologic linguist named Bella and Oleg Bustoffson who got started a little
early during the summer of love. His parents did marry several years later. Les
grew up in a household surrounded by loving and caring people. His father was
involved in researches into environmental changes for the USMS. It was on one
of these expeditions that his father was killed. Les was only 15, but by then, like his cousin Barney, he knew something was not right with the world. Les completed high school and
went to a nearby Virginian community college where he got an AS in Criminal Science and joined
the DC Police. Les' mother died soon after, which sent Les into an existential
crisis and quest for meaning in his life. After completing his degree in English
at Georgetown University Les had hoped to go to medical school but financial
distress and an unwillingness to commit to 7 years of indentured servitude changed
his mind. Les decided to pursue a doctor of divinity to try to fill the empty
space in his soul. His search for meaning goes unresolved, but a chance meeting
did lead him to the love of his life and wife, Marta. Les left DC to follow
the woman of his dreams and further pursued his own education.

Les ended up in Texas where he easily won election to sherrif for a small
town in Texas that no longer exists. It was the night that this town was wiped
from the earth that Les realized the call to service that had made him become
a police officer, and made him ponder the priesthood, had prepared him perfectly
to be a fist of humaity in its fight against the ineluctable.
Les decided to join S-P-O-N-G-E after a long night with Barney
in a hotel room in his small west Texas town. While the town burned around
them and minions of evil cavorted in the ashes of the dying Les realized
he could acquire purpose in his life, by joining the fight with SPONGE.
Upon meeting Frank West at SPONGE headquarters it became immediately apparent
that their philosophies of reaction to the alien menace coincided completely.
Les quickly joined Western Survivalists and he and Frank have been involved
in some pretty serious sphincter tightening adventures that you can read
about in the S-P-O-N-G-E Case Files. |

Les spends his time between his room at S-P-O-N-G-E headquarters and
his home in DC. Most of his time is spent in researching the international
events that indicate otherworldly activity. Les spent 3 years in East
Asia recently putting down a major cult in the PRC. Besides the success
of that mission, Les felt the most valuable thing he brought from the
mission was the ability to get things in a Chinese restaurant that aren't
on the english menu. Les is able to generate funding for his activities
through his associations with the federal government. Mostly doing "weather
research" like his father before him.
His annual treks to Galapagos represent almost all his vacation time,
though his recent near fatal injury relating to that adventure did give
him the opportunity to spend some quality time with his wife.
His current investigations (as of 2001) are leading him to Belize in
Central America in the near future.
