The BeginningYou receive an email from Dr. Bustoffson instructing you to meet him at the Miskatonic Cafe at noon. He used the password of the day in his opening line, so you're fairly certain that the email is genuine.
After gathering some supplies (notebook, pen, flashlight, extra batteries, and a spool of string) you head out into Arkham. The streets are strangely quiet for the middle of the day. You don't know the town that well, but it's usually busier than this. There is something in the air (maybe a storm is coming).
When you reach the Cafe, Dr. Bustoffson is already there, waiting for you. He wolfs down a powdered-sugar donut as you enter, motioning for you to have a seat across from him.
"Thanks for coming by on such short notice," he says. You nod, and ask him to explain what it is that brought you here.
"Something has come up, and I have to go to New York immediately." Barney pauses before continuing, as if unsure how to proceed. He continues, "I have a package that needs to be given to a Dr. Wainwright from the Oceanographic Institute in Woods Hole. It must be handed to him personally. He's coming by SPONGE headquarters tonight to get it. I won't be here, and of course, Kilroy is at S&D school with Frank, Les, and some of the new Historians from the Network."
Barney lowers his voice. "The package is very important, and valuable. I need someone I can trust to make sure Dr. Wainwright gets it. Can I trust you?
You take a breath, and then nod your head yes. Barney sighs, and smiles. "Then it's settled."
He takes a parcel out of a bag at his feet and hands it to you. It weighs about two pounds. The wrapping is plain and brown. It is slightly book-shaped, with an odd bow to it. Barney stands, ready to leave.
"Go ahead over to SPONGE headquarters at about five o'clock. Wainwright should be by at six. I have to leave now, so good luck. I will see you in a few days." With that Barney leaves.
